According to the historical records, peach trees here were planted in Tang Dynasty, and the peach tree cultivation has developed in Northern Song Dynasty. The peach trees have formed a natural landscape, which stretches about 5km. During the Cultural Revolution period, these peach trees were damaged tremendously due to excessive deforestation and reclaiming wasteland for farming. Since the reform and opening up, peach tree cultivation has reached a historical heyday, formed a 10000-mu peach tree base, which focuses on garden spot and spreads all over the town; Yangdian has been one of “Four Major Nectarine Bases” across the nation.
In 1992, the then General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Jiang Zemin, once visited the garden spot personally to inspect peach tree cultivation.. In March each year, a large area of peach trees burst into bloom all over the mountains and plains, just like a group of faeries. When looking around, the large area of peach blossom is like brilliant mist and rosy clouds, which decorates the post with surpassingly beautiful color, and makes people feel like entering a peach blossom fairyland. In 2000, people there held the first Peach Flower Festival in Yangdian and then, from 2001 to 2003, the Festival was held there successively. Nowadays, Yangdian has been the first choice for people, near and far away from there, to appreciate the wonderful scenery of peach blossom around vernal equinox to each lunar calendar year. In 2008, more than 30,000 people came to Yangdian for appreciating the peach blossom. While, in 2009, that number reached more than 40,000. Peach blossom tourism has been well-known far and near, and it has been a tourism brand of Yangdian.
