In order to meet travel needs of the masses, Xiaogan Transportation Bureau has spared no effort to set up a rural passenger transport networks with counties (city) and downtown as centers, townships as nodes and administrative villages as terminals to comprehensively assault the fortified positions of village-to-village buses. It is estimated that all administrative villages will be covered by the passenger transport network in Xiaogan at the end of this year.

According to the statistics, among 116 townships and 2,843 administrative villages in Xiaogan, the opening ratio to traffic of administrative villages will has risen from 75.7% at the beginning of this year to about 86% now. There are 2,375 buses for road passenger transportation in total in Xiaogan, including 1,237 regular buses for passenger transport in villages. 54 Level V passenger transport stations in townships and 1,326 bus shelters have been built.

Reconstruction of rural highway facilities and dangerous bridges and sections is the important premise and fundamental guarantee of provision of village-to-village buses. Up to now, the pilot work tasks of the two demonstration lines, Qingshi-Tianshan and Xiaohe-Tiegang in Xiaochang, have been completed and pavement upgrading and reconstruction have been implemented; Muzi Township in Anlu has been taken as the pilot place of village-to-village buses, 7 “three ten thousands” working teams of transportation system have been uniformly dispatched to 11 villages in the township to improve supporting highway facilities and 4 new village-to-village highways have been built; over 100 transportation technicians in Hanchuan have went to villages to provide technical guidance and assistance to quickly improve passenger transport and security facilities and highway conditions in villages.

Based on the features of villages, i.e. multiple points, wide face and scattered passenger sources, the transportation management department of Xiaogan actively supervises and urges various places to adjust measures to local conditions, make the best use of the circumstances and use various methods including line extension, regional operation, making telephone appointments and “ferry” operation of shuttle buses to ensure that the buses in villages can “pass smoothly, be reserved and run for a long distance”, so as to meet the travel needs of residents in villages and towns and realize both social benefit and economic benefit.
